When reaching for what to gab about today I saw a picture in my mind. That happens to me a lot. I’ve always been primarily visual.
It was a pig in a pigsty.
He was ambling along, snout full of slop or mud or both.
And his eyes had no life left in them. Circling the pen with no real direction – just habit, in the same old rut.
Day after day, after day.
I dare say when he was a piglet that was a different story.
Eyes bright, little curly tail just a waggin’, running around not even noticing its confines. Just happy to be here.
And then life happens.
And before long, everything changes.
I will admit I’ve found myself akin to the pig many times.
Even in the last year, though I have grown & experienced a lot of good, I’ve also gotten into a rut. Doing the same old things, over & over – going nowhere fast. Not feeling as much life as I’d like – and fighting the mundane, or rolling around in it like it was my lot in life.
And going through bouts of not even caring.
But the truth is I want out.
I don’t want the confines of this or that or those – or them.
I don’t want the dirty walls & muddy feet & God-only-knows-what- else.
I like freedom.
I want more life.
I want more love.
I want to see more, experience more, be more.
Jesus gave His life so I could.
So you could, and you & you.
And yes – even you.
He’s no respecter of persons you know –
& He loves to fling wide the rusty gates that have held us back –
For so much longer than we’d have chosen.
He loves to watch us run & play & find the treasures left along the path worn down just for us –
Long before we were a twinkle in Mama’s eyes.
Oh Lord, may we all find ours. Help us today.
For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. -Zephaniah 3:17
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness. – John 10:10
Much love y’all & glorious freedom from our pigsties,
